FAQs: Why a pre-order? When will it ship?

I have gotten several questions already about expected arrival time for the planner, so I thought I would address these questions upfront.

As I have mentioned in a previous newsletter, I am able to add back in the tab dividers to the planner because I am bringing the production of the planner (specifically the coil-bound, 3-ring binder and looseleaf formats) in house. This means that I am printing the dividers in my studio, but have found a local bindery to finish them — die cut and laminate the tab portion of each one. Then my staff and I will hand-collate the dividers into the rest of the pages of each planner and bring the guts of each coil-bound planner back to the bindery to be bound. These tab dividers are a very specific item that not every printer or bindery can create (and I am so happy I found a bindery local to me that can do it). The custom nature of the dividers also means a sliding scale of cost, where the more you create in one batch, the cheaper the price per divider is.

This is where the benefit of launching a pre-order sale comes in. From it, I will be able to get a more accurate estimate of how many of each planner variation is needed so I can order the correct amount of each set of dividers, and also get the best per unit price. The processing time for the dividers and the coil binding is about a week for each phase, leaving me a couple days in between to tackle all of the printing and collating of the guts of the planners. This is why I have estimated a 3-4 week processing time during this initial pre-order sale. After that, the processing time will decrease since I'll have the dividers finished and ready to insert into each planner as orders come in.

I know many of you experienced frustration from the extended processing time of last year's planner. To be honest, it was a nightmare for me, too. There were a lot of unexpected bottlenecks last year, all of which have been sorted now, thank goodness.

I have been working diligently with my team this summer and fall to prepare all of the items we need ahead of time, as much as is possible. We've been laminating and cutting covers for weeks now to stock up on each design, ordering shipping mailers and packing supplies, creating some fun swag to share, and are gearing up for a quick and efficient sales season.
